Nagpur (Maharashtra): Greater love and empathy has no one than this. Everyone values his/her own life more than anything else.

But this real-life story from an octogenarian from Nagpur will make you relook at your priorities and your own place in the cosmic order.

We live in tumultuous times and it appears as if the planet is on a re-set mode. Loved ones, close acquaintances pass away even as we get bad tidings about legions struggling to get a diagnostic test, a hospital bed, a precious injection or an oxygen cylinder.

Well, here goes this heartwarming story of a selfless man who wanted no publicity for his 'sacrifice'.

Eighty-five year old Narayan Dabhadkar, whose oxygen level plummeted perilously low secured a hospital through the efforts of his daughter. After the admission paperwork was completed the kindly old man saw a sobbing lady, half his age, pleading for a bed for her husband who was critical.

[tw]https://twitter.com/ShefVaidya/status/1386733543611461632[/tw]

Spontaneously, Dabhadkar, who is also an RSS worker, offered his bed allotment in favour of the younger patient and signed the requisite papers.

His justification: "I am 85 now, have lived my life, you should offer the bed to this man instead, his children need him."

He returned home and passed away three days later.

[tw]https://twitter.com/ShefVaidya/status/1386733545373061120[/tw]

We have heard of people who wangle a bed using their connections, but here is one who readily gave up his own in order to save another person who was a total stranger.

[tw]https://twitter.com/ShefVaidya/status/1386733547294138368[/tw]

Truly, the pandemic has brought out the best and worst of human nature and attitude. Such acts of random kindness need need to be lauded and remembered.
