Following the motto of 'Poriborton Hobe' In Bengal, The Bollywood legend and Bengal's Star Mithun Chakraborty joined the saffron brigade before the West Bengal Assembly Elections commenced. While people of Bengal rejoiced at the thought of witnessing Bengal's heartthrob as 'Minister Fatakeshto', Mithun Da decided that he will not contest West Bengal Assembly elections from any seat but will stand and support BJP to make their 'Sonar Bangla' goal a reality.

After the day Mithun Chakraborty joined the Bhartiya Janata Party, he took responsibilities and started the mega roadshows on March 26 with the party candidates. Chakraborty has held back-to-back rallies since then and the roadshows have witnessed massive crowds.

On Day 1, he held roadshows in three districts - Saltora, Jhargram and Keshiari, making flying visits using a helicopter.

At Saltora in Bankura, chants of "Dada" greeted the 70-year-old movie star and dance show judge. Many also shouted "dialogue" to get him to say some of his most famous one-liners.

"My relationship with the people of Bengal is not that of hero and fan," said the national award-winning actor, wearing a saffron scarf in addition to his usual kurta, cap, and sunglasses.

"My bond with them is from the heart. Aamar hridoyer sambandho, aatmar sambandho. I connect with them from the heart," the actor told the media

"Dialogues bolna padta hai (one has to give them some dialogues) because I am an entertainer - see... even now people are shouting for dialogues."

Even though Mithun Chakroborty is not contesting the election from any seat, the crowds' presence in his rallies proves the massive fan following he holds in West Bengal.

According to political experts, Mithun Chakraborty's rallies can be a mega factor if BJP wins in West Bengal but it is too early to estimate with 5 phases left in the poll-bound state.

On Monday, the actor registered himself as a voter in north Kolkata that ignited the speculations of him contesting the elections. Chakraborty’s name has been enrolled as a voter of Kashipur-Belgachhia Assembly constituency in Kolkata, with his sister Sharmishta Sarkar's residential address on Raja Manindra Roy Road in north Kolkata as his address.

The sudden decision also gave fuel to the speculations that he may be projected as the Chief Minister's face from the saffron party considering the fanbase the veteran actor holds in Bengal.

Even in various television interviews, Chakraborty has said he would reduce the cost of electricity and make every cabin in government hospitals air-conditioned if the BJP comes to power.

The Bollywood actor, has, however, remained tight-lipped on whether he wants to become the CM.

The veteran actor's political life has completed a full circle. Mithun Da has traversed the whole political gamut after being close to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) who were in power in Bengal for 35 years, then joining the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as a Rajya Sabha MP and finally jumping the ship to the BJP.

While BJP has been exuding confidence after the first phase of elections that the party will dethrone Mamata Banerjee and would win Bengal with a huge mandate of 200 seats.
