<p><strong>Ahmedabad:</strong> A new wave of coronavirus infections has hit the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad with as many as 40 people including students and a professor testing positive for coronavirus.</p> <p>"As many as 40 people including students and a professor -- were found positive in tests conducted at the institute and they were isolated," said Mehul Acharya, deputy health officer, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <span style="color: #e03e2d;"><a style="color: #e03e2d;" href="https://ift.tt/3u2cRnW 75th 'Mann Ki Baat' PM Modi Pays Remembers Janata Curfew, Thanks Citizens For 'Extraordinary Discipline' During Covid</a></span><br /><br /></strong>An IIMA official revealed that currently there are 25 students who tested positive for Covid-19 on campus.</p> <p>"Many are asymptomatic and recovering fast. All our academic activities are in online mode from last year. Entry and exit from the campus have been restricted. We regularly share precautionary guidelines for all the residents of the campus," the official said.</p> <p>Meanwhile, India registered the year's highest Covid death toll so far, with over 300 fatalities. According to Health Ministry's data, 62,714 new coronavirus infections have been recorded in a day, once again the highest single-day rise so far this year, taking the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,19,71,624.</p> <p>Active cases have increased to 4,86,310 registering an increase for the 18th day in a row. The active cases comprise 4.06 percent of the total infections while the recovery rate has further dropped to 94.58 percent, the data stated</p> <p>The death toll increased to 1,61,552 with 312 new fatalities, the highest in around three months as it is the highest since December 25, 2020, when 336 new deaths were reported.</p> <p>Central and state governments have urged people to celebrate Holi indoors instead of participating in public events, to contain the second wave of rapid spread.</p>
